If your children attend or have attended Nickajack Elementary School in Smryna, then more than likely they were touched by an incredible teacher, Ms Amanda Newman Schmidt. She has taught there for the last 20 years and has helped shaped many of our children into the humans they are today. Now it is our turn to help her. She was diagnosed 2 years ago with ALS. The disease has progressed and she is wheelchair bound, and struggles with arm movement and speech. Her amazing parents have taken her back into their home to caregive, but their home needs modifications for accessibility. We are holding a Gratitude Gathering for her this Sunday, 6/23, 3-5 pm at Tolleson Park, in an effort to help raise money for her home modifications.
