September in the Sierra Foothills used to be my FAVORITE time of year. I was a pumpkin-spice-drinking, scarf-wearing, play-in-the-leaves, go-apple-picking basic fall girlie. 🍂☕️UNTIL I moved five minutes from the lake and fell in love with paddleboarding.
Now September comes around and I’m genuinely conflicted. 😂 I’m ready for crisp mornings, farmers markets and fall festivals…but I’m also absolutely not ready to put the paddleboard away and admit summer is over.
Luckily, after 35+ years in Placer County, I’ve learned September doesn’t really make you choose. You get cooler mornings for hiking, afternoons at wineries…and somehow still a few perfect lake days. ☀️🍂
It’s honestly one of my favorite months to live in the Sierra Foothills. So whether you’ve been here for decades or you’re just starting to picture what life in Placer County could look like, save this for your September plans.
Comment “AUTUMN” and I’ll send you my full Fall in Placer County Guide 🍂 — with the best places to catch the changing leaves, local pumpkin patches, fall events + more! +

August in Placer County ☀️📚🍉

We’re officially in the second half of summer, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy it!

🍉 FINISH THAT SUMMER BUCKET LIST
Lake days, picnics, swimming holes, farmers markets, ice cream runs… summer isn’t over yet. There’s still time to squeeze in a few more summer adventures!

When you live in Placer County, early August means your friends’ gardens are in overdrive, and suddenly you’re driving home with a passenger seat full of zucchini and tomatoes you didn’t go shopping for. 🍅🥒
You’ve probably heard of “Midwest Nice.” Around here, the California version is knowing you can’t politely decline fresh produce, even when your crisper drawer is already overflowing.
While the rest of the internet is talking about , all I have to do for fresh lettuce is stop by a friend’s garden or visit one of our incredible local farmers markets. I know my lettuce is fresh, safe, and clean.
It’s one of the many reasons I love calling Placer County home. Beautiful communities, amazing local agriculture, and neighbors who love sharing the best of what they grow.
If you don’t already get my monthly newsletter, you’re missing out! This month’s edition includes a zucchini bread recipe you won’t want to miss. send me a DM with your email and i’ll add you.

If you’re anything like me, you swore you were staying home this year... and then a last-minute invite showed up that was just too good to pass up. 🇺🇸✨

Now you need something to bring, but the grocery store parking lot looks like the start of a demolition derby, you refuse to participate in.

Enter this easy Red, White & Blue Summer Salad. Chances are you already have most of the ingredients sitting in your fridge right now. (Okay, maybe not the candied pecans—but everything else is fair game. 😆)

Ingredients:
🍓 Strawberries
🫐 Blueberries
🤍 Feta cheese
🥑 Avocado
🥬 Mixed greens
🌰 Candied pecans (optional you will not find these included if I make the salad)
🍗 Grilled chicken (optional)
✨ Balsamic glaze

Directions:
Add mixed greens to a large serving bowl.
Top with strawberries, blueberries, avocado, feta, and candied pecans.
Add grilled chicken if desired.
Drizzle with balsamic glaze just before serving.
Serve chilled and enjoy!

Fresh, festive, and takes just a few minutes to throw together before heading out the door.

Happy 4th! or to my Colfaxians, Happy 3rd!

☀️ If I have to do summer anywhere, it’s Placer County.

I’ll be honest... summer isn’t my favorite season. I’m just not a hot-weather girl. 😅

However, if I’m going to spend July anywhere, it’s here.

July can be one of the best months to get out and explore. Whether you’re cooling off at Rollins Lake, escaping to Tahoe for the day, catching fireworks in Auburn or Colfax, browsing a local farmers market, or sitting under the lights with a hot dog at a Lincoln Potters game, there’s always something happening.

I spent quite a while putting this post together because I wanted it to be a list of things I’d actually recommend—not just another generic summer roundup. Every spot, event, and activity made the list because I genuinely think it’s worth checking out.

💾 Save this post for later.
📤 Share it with someone looking for summer plans.

👇 Comment your favorite July activity, I’d love to hear!

And if you’re new to the area—or thinking about making a move here—this is exactly what summers can look like when you call Placer County home.

🍦 It’s officially ice cream season in Placer County… and I have personally sacrificed my blood sugar and macros in the name of research. You’re welcome.

If you’re looking for the best ice cream spots in Placer County and the surrounding foothill communities, here are a few local favorites worth a stop this summer:

📍 Coco’s Candy & Creamery | Colfax
A new location with the same delicious ice cream and candy selection right on Main Street. One of my favorite small-town stops when I’m in Colfax.

📍 Lazy Dog Chocolateria | Grass Valley
Many people know them for their incredible chocolates and truffles, but don’t sleep on the ice cream. A chocolate-dipped vanilla cone on a hot summer day is hard to beat, and they always have unique flavors for adventurous ice cream lovers.

📍 Yeti Tavern | Auburn
One of those hidden gems you could easily walk right past. My husband and I love stopping in whenever we’re downtown. Grab a scoop, then head upstairs for pinball and arcade games—a perfect summer date night.

📍 Taylor’s | Loomis
Taylor’s may be famous for burgers, but their milkshake and ice cream menu is legendary, with more than 100 flavor combinations. It’s a local favorite and a must-stop summer treat spot.

📍 Gunther’s | Sacramento
Yes, it’s a bit of a drive, but this historic Sacramento institution has earned its reputation. If you make the trip, do yourself a favor and order the Neapolitan Banana Split—it’s a it’s on the menu for a reason!

❤️ Save this post for your next “What should we do tonight?” moment.

And if you’re thinking about moving to Placer or Nevada County, or the surrounding communities, this is just a small glimpse of what local life looks like around here.

**not my closing**

Imagine getting the keys to your first home like THIS 😭🏡✨

This is the kind of client experience people remember forever. ❤️

Whether you’re buying your first home (preferably with a little land 😍), selling the family property after years of memories, or starting a whole new chapter altogether — I know moving is a huge life moment, and those moments matter.

If you want a realtor who understands that and goes the extra mile, you’ve got me for Placer & Nevada Counties or .realtor for Yuba county and surrounding areas. (This was her closing setup for her buyers 👏✨)

I borrowed these photos to shout out .balloon.co new service for realtors because this setup is NEXT LEVEL 🎈 She creates custom welcome-home balloon installs in multiple styles, open house decor, party themes, and photo backdrops for client events that people actually remember.

Her work is incredible, she’s local, and every order supports a local woman-owned business 💕

And huge credit again to .realtor for making such a special day for her buyers 🏡✨

Happy National Teachers Week! 🍎

This post was supposed to go up Monday… but technology and I are apparently in another feud. 😂

This week we celebrate the incredible dedication, patience, and heart teachers bring every single day. Thank you for shaping minds, encouraging our youth, and making such a lasting impact on so many lives.

Big shoutout to the teachers who believed in me and helped shape who I am today: Bill Halbert, Jan Caldwell, Mrs. McLanahan, and Mr. Trueblood. The impact you made has stayed with me all these years later. Adolescent Chaun was carrying a lot, and that burden often came out through a sharp tongue, but you all saw past that and gave me grace, which allowed me to flourish.

Do you remember a teacher who changed your life or believed in you when you needed it most? Give them a shoutout in the comments. ❤️
