Reassessment,
Impact on Property Taxes:

Reassessment does not directly set taxes; it only updates the assessed value, which is then multiplied by the tax rate.
Increased Value does not in itself equal Higher Taxes:
If your assessment goes up, but your neighbor's goes up more, your relative share of the total tax burden may actually decrease.
Tax Rate Adjustment:
When total assessed values in a town rise, the tax rate usually decreases to compensate, keeping the total tax levy stable.

Appealing a Reassessment:
If you believe your new assessment is inaccurate or unfair, you have the right to challenge it.
Informal Hearing:
Meet with the assessor to discuss the data and provide evidence of market value.
Formal Grievance: File a complaint with the local Board of Assessment Review (often called "Grievance Day" in NY).
Judicial Review: If still dissatisfied, you may appeal to a higher authority, such as a state board or court.
