Received this from one of our loan officers today! GREAT information. Keeping you in the 'know'....
• Future Rate Changes. The Fed members are indicating a low probability of any Fed Fund rate changes in 2020. Of the 17 voting members of the FOMC, only 4 have indicated they believe there could be one increase next year, and the other 13 members indicated they do not expect any changes next year.
• Future GDP Growth. The FOMC announced they are expecting the US economy to have “moderate” growth for the next three years with 2019 to end at 2.2% GDP growth, 2020 projected at 2.00%, 2021 at 1.9%, and 2022 at 1.8% GDP growth. As a reminder, a recession is defined as two or more consecutive quarters of negative GDP growth. The Fed is effectively telling the markets that they do not see a recession occurring in the US for the next three years. The Fed was clear that they are always evaluating new data coming into the markets, so these views can always change.
• Inflation Outlook. Today’s Fed statement did not make any mention of changing their inflation target which is presently 2.00%. The Fed is concerned that if inflation is too low it could negatively impact the growth of the US economy.
• Household Spending. The Fed described household spending as “rising at a strong pace”.
• Unemployment Rate. The Fed described the unemployment rate as “low”.
• Business Investment. Business fixed investments were described as “weak”.
• US Economic Outlook. The Fed said the US economy should experience “moderate” growth for the next three years.
