🚗 New to Augusta? Need to Register Your Vehicle?

I stopped by the South Augusta Tag Office this morning and was pleasantly surprised—there was little to no wait.

If you're moving to Georgia and need to register your vehicle, bring:

✔ Driver's License
✔ Vehicle Title (or current registration, depending on your situation)
✔ Proof of Georgia Insurance
✔ Proof of Georgia Address

💰 Most people should expect to pay a title fee, registration fee, tag fee, and Georgia's Title Ad Valorem Tax (TAVT). The exact amount depends on the vehicle.

💡 Tip: If possible, go in the morning. My experience today was quick and easy.

One thing I wish more military families knew before moving to Fort Gordon...

Don't choose a home based only on how close it is to post.

I know it sounds strange coming from someone who spent 20 years in the Army, but after several PCS moves, I learned that the closest house isn't always the best fit for your family.

When most families start looking online, they focus on miles. The reality is that your daily experience is shaped by much more than that.

Think about things like:

🏫 Schools

🛒 Grocery stores and shopping

⚾ Parks and activities for the kids

🚗 Your actual commute during the hours you'll be driving

☕ The places you'll visit every week, not just once in a while

I've seen families automatically focus on one area because it looks closest to Fort Gordon, only to discover later that another community would have fit their lifestyle much better.

Every family is different. Some prioritize schools. Others want a shorter commute. Some want newer neighborhoods, while others want more land and a little extra space.

The best advice I can give is this: don't just look at the map. Take time to understand how you'll actually live once you get here.

That's where the real difference is.
