There is a lighthouse about two and a half miles off the coast of Maine with no road, no bridge, and no quick way home. Seguin Island Lighthouse has been guiding ships into the Kennebec River since 1795, and this summer two seasonal keepers are living there, drinking coffee on the porch and watching whales.

Is Fall or Winter a Good Time to Sell a House in Maine?

Short answer: yes, especially in fall. In Kennebec County, single-family homes that closed between October and December 2025 went under contract in a median of 18 to 20 days, according to Maine Listings. Deep winter is slower. Homes that closed in January and February 2026 took a median of 56 to 57 days. But those winter sellers still received about 97 percent of their asking price, compared with about 99 percent in summer. In other words, winter costs you time more than it costs you money.
