Here's a few things to consider: While owning your own home with equity to tap into for care needs and/or home modifications for aging in place provides a safety net, it also comes with maintenance, taxes, and insurance. After Baby Boomers, Millenials are the next largest segment of the housing market. Their preferred home styles are modern and ranch, which are also preferred styles of Baby Boomers. Ask just about anyone over 55 about their No. 1 housing goal, and chances are they will say to "age in place". Ask when they plan on selling their home, and many say, "I'm gonna stay here till I die!" Worthy goals, but what does aging in place really mean? As boomers, often the homes we bought in our 30s and 40s are not conducive to safe and comfortable aging in place. First-floor suites, larger showers, technology such as security cameras, and even moving away from tough winter weather, all can create better aging in place options that perhaps your current home offers. A few years ago, on one of our spiritual retreat cruises with the theme of loving your life, I passed out a fill in word quiz.
It was I LOVE L_ _ _.
100% filled in "I Love Lucy!"
The correct answer was I LOVE LIFE!
Our spiritual retreat T-shirts said:
No Life Is Perfect until You Fall in Love with It.
Every day provides you with another opportunity to praise God for the gift of life. It is good to be alive. Every day there are manifold joys, and an endless array of blessings. This is crowned by the ever-present Spirit of God as your illumination, your strength and your help in every need.
The presence of God fills your life and your world with good. There is no room in your thinking for regret, fear, or depression. God has and is fulfilling every good desire of your heart.
Jesus constantly gave thanks, and you have much for which to give thanks. You put love into your daily tasks and into all your relationships. You give of your time and you share of your faith. As you give to life, you are filled with a spirit of joy and love.
No matter what has happened in the past, the spirit of the Christ is with you and waiting to give you all the help and support you need. So, you can put the past behind you and get on with living your life. Love your life with enthusiasm and a sense of renewal in your mind and heart.
