Before this year, I always simply appreciated having a 3 Day Weekend for Memorial Day… making plans to have a BBQ and enjoy my upcoming shortened work week.
Though I am married to a veteran, I married him after he was out of the Navy and was never a wife who had to worry about her spouse on deployment. I have only been blessed to see the benefits that he left the military with.
A friend of mine made a post about the REAL reason for Memorial Day and it made me think hard about it and thank God for never having to be in that position. Never having to be the wife praying that her husband makes it home alive. Or even worse, never having to be the person who gets the devastating phone call or visit to say that their loved one is gone from answering the call of duty.
So today- I vow to take time each year on Memorial Day to give a moment of silence, gratitude, and sincere appreciation for those that we’ve lost who bravely fought for our country and freedom. Despite the sh*tshow that America is, it is still our country and home. I’ll be taking time to pray for the families who are trying to make it through this holiday without their loved one(s).
So THANK YOU and much love to every single fallen soldier who has served and paid with their lives to help my entitled ass live the life I live. I’m grateful and forever thankful for your service. May your memory live on forever.
And for the veterans and active duty military … THANK YOU for your service and I’m glad you are still with us to share your experience.
Happy Memorial Day. 😔💙
