How did Spicertown Become a town within a Town?

It all started when two men decided to make this area home. Two brothers born in G**s Creek Kentucky James (Jim) Spicer and his younger brother Miles Spicer settled in this area known as Austin. Farming the land and Working at the local food cannery known at that time as Morgan Packing Company.

Jim & Miles both Farmed the land that later became divided when the construction of Interstate 65 plowed thru Scott County in 1958-1960. The two homesteads remained on the west side of Austin and since the two farms were owned by the Spicer brothers and they were the only homes on this side of the Interstate. People in the community began referring to this side of Austin as Spicertown. This name caught on and continues to this day.

In July 2021 Donald E. Spicer the great-grandson of Jim Spicer a 4th Generation Decendant of Jim Spicer approached the Austin City Council and told the Spicertown Story. He advised the council that as a 4th generation Spicer he would like to solidify the Spicertown name. He asked the Council if they would consider adopting a resolution to offiially name this area Spicertown.

The city officials unimously agreed to officially name Spicertown and in the August 2021 meeting made their decision official.

Everitt Spicer the son of Jim Spicer still resides in the original residence located on the corner of Spicer Drive and York Road.
Six Generations of Jim still reside in the Spicertown Community.
