Builder confidence for newly built single-family homes rose 5 points to 50 in May (according to National Association of Home Builders). Wells Fargo Housing Market Index, the 5th straight month of gains and the first reading of builder sentiment since July that wasn’t negative. Of the index’s three components, current sales conditions rose 5 points to 56, sales expectations in the next 6 months increased 7 points to 57, and buyer traffic climbed 2 points to 33. (CNBC)

Check your insurance policies as some insurers are dropping their policyholders if their roofs are older than 10 years.... asphalt roll roofs have a lifespan of about 5-10 years. Slate, copper, metal and tile roofs can last 50 years or more. Metal roofs have many benefits besides longevity: they can withstand strong winds, are crack/hail resistant, they do not ignite, are energy efficient and are 100% recyclable. They do tend to be noisier, more expensive and must be installed properly. (Statefarm)

Did you know? Not all home insurance is reliable when it comes to claims related to flooding and wind. Often policyholders fail to read the fine print of their policies. Over 25% of all closed insurance claims in decimated Lee County, Florida have been denied, leaving tens of thousands of property owners on the brink of financial ruin. In addition to the 48,344 claims rejected as of Jan. 20, another 30,215 remain in limbo without any signs of forthcoming payment. Florida has been battling the insurance issue after many insurance companies pulled out of the state because of years of fraudulent claims. Flooding is not covered automatically by many home insurance policies. Some insurers are arguing whether damages were caused by wind or flooding. (NY POST)
