There are 5.6 MILLION vacant homes across the U.S. according to a LendingTree study 🏘️

Examining the 50 largest metros, LendingTree found an average vacancy rate of 7.37%. So, does this debunk the “housing shortage”? Not quite.

“Millions of vacant homes don’t mean an oversupply,” says LendingTree Senior Economist Jacob Channel. Many of these homes are vacant for reasons such as being listed for rent, not due to disrepair or abandonment, reflecting a more nuanced housing landscape.

Unlock MLS: Housing inventory increases across MSA, four months of inventory available in multiple markets

AUSTIN, Texas —“In March, new home listings across the Austin-Round Rock-Georgetown MSA jumped to 4,714 new listings, 10.2% more than March 2023, leading to multiple markets reaching four months of inventory, according to the latest Central Texas Housing Reportreleased by Unlock MLS.

The data indicates that homeowners have confidence in their ability to sell their homes for good value while buyers now have a larger selection of home options, helping to keep price growth flat.”
