I’m incredibly proud to have been installed as the 2021 President of the Austin Board of Realtors. Had you told me just a few years ago that I’d be sitting in this position, I would have laughed at you.
I’ve been a Realtor for 24 years. In 2009 was disappointed with a decision our board made and decided to roll up my sleeves and get involved. I loved having a hand in the decisions being made and eventually found myself on the Board in 2015. In 2017 I was removed from the board, and, alongside a handful of other members who were passionate about making a change, immediately ran by petition to get back on the board. That election saw more than 8x as many votes as we’ve ever had cast…. and I found myself back in a board seat. It’s been quite a roller coaster.
Since then we have worked so well together, pushed ABoR to exciting places and are hands-down one of the most cutting edge boards in our industry. I attribute that almost entirely to putting a new, and our current, CEO Emily Chenevert in place. I’ve always been told it’s best to be surrounded by people smarter than yourself, and our board certainly took that to heart when we put Emily in as CEO.
I’m looking forward to a great year serving our almost 20,000 members. I’m going to dedicate my time to building community, getting to know and work well with our neighboring MLSs, to introducing and helping members embrace exciting technology we see on the horizon, and showing the public how important and integral we, as Realtors, are to our community.
Bear with me. I’m new to this and will surely stumble, but I’ve got a team of people around me to lift me up and keep us looking good. I’m really excited about this role and look forward to being able to give back to my colleagues who have given so much to me.
