The Texas Memorial Museum has offered the Austin community (and beyond) unique opportunities to explore and learn about the natural world, including information about scientific discoveries made in Texas. UT will renovate and upgrade this beloved museum to help better serve future generations.
P.S. The museum temporarily closed earlier this year and is set to reopen in stages beginning in fall 2023. Starting in September 2023, visitors will have opportunities to revisit cherished exhibits.

On November 15, the Austin Parks and Recreation Department released a plan for the future of Zilker Park, which is open to community comments now through January 8, 2023. The goal of the “draft Zilker Park Vision Plan document and map” is to better establish “a guiding framework for the restoration and future development of Zilker Metropolitan Park,” which includes all of its 350 acres. It is the first document to spark this initiative and emphasizes the need for community feedback.

Highlights of the vision plan include:
* Adding a Zilker Land Bridge
* Creating an "Ecological Uplift" to reduce parking areas, improve spacing of access points to Barton Creek, and turn landfill areas from contamination hazards to biodiverse park space.
* Building a Parking Garage

When I bought my first home in Austin, Texas, my backyard was dried out and needed to be redone. It has taken time and patience to get my yard exactly how I wanted it to be. For any new or current homeowner looking to revamp their yard, I have a couple of nurseries in Austin I love. The first is East Side Succulents, and the other is Tillery Street Plant Company. These establishments have been neighbors for twelve years, but their businesses are separate with one specializing in succulents while the other offers a broader variety of plants.

Texas State Parks is turning 100, and H-E-B–one of its proven biggest fans–is gifting them $1 million. The organization strives to promote awareness and environmental stewardship by explicitly committing to coastal conservation along the Texas Gulf Coast, Black Bear restoration in West Texas, and the establishment of Palo Pinto Mountains State Park. This donation makes $13 million total donated by H-E-B to more than 500 environmental organizations since 2012. Its efforts with Keep Texas Recycling have had tangible impacts on store shelves, adding informative labels to more than 2,300 products. At least 636 million pounds of various materials, including food and tires, were recycled just in 2021, and 34 million pounds of food was donated to food-insecure families
