Have you ever met someone with whom you cultivated a strong friendship in a short period of time?
I’ve had the fortune of this experience on more than one occasion, but today I’ve felt inspired to share one experience in particular.
A couple of years ago, I met a very kind lady who was wanting to move to Alabama. Part of her family lived there while another part of her family (who also lived near me) wanted to move there.
It was a challenging situation for a few different reasons. She lived on her own and had Crohn's disease which made it difficult for her to perform some of the day-to-day activities most people can perform with ease. Needless to say, she needed professional help and I wanted to help her.
She had spoken to a handful of different Realtors, encountered a few who clearly didn’t have her best interests at heart, and ultimately decided to hire me. When we started working together she asked me: “Do you know why I hired you?”
She said: “It’s because I felt like you were the only one who truly listened and empathized with my concerns.”
Of course, selling a home is a big decision. It can be an emotional process for people and it’s also a big financial decision. We are talking about one of if not, the most valuable asset most people own. It’s also a place where families break bread, create memories, and find a sanctuary of peace. Therefore, I reiterate, it’s a big decision.
Immediately after we started marketing the property, we began to receive showings. After the first day, we had received multiple offers and ended up closing on her home above asking price and in less than thirty days.
She was so happy with the experience that she referred me to her other family members who were also moving from Texas to Alabama. I was able to successfully help them as well.
I believe that our purpose in life is to help others when we are needed because it gives us the opportunity of making this world a better place. And, let's be honest, no one has ever become poor by giving rather, giving to others is what enriches our lives.
