By far the highlight of my week was spending lunch with this precious woman on Tuesday when she was visiting in town for a work conference. Nickie (“Nickie Lou” to me) is one of the dearest and most cherished friends in my life- an unexpected gift from God and maybe the very reason I moved to Boston twenty years ago. We were roommates during my short two years in Boston and became inseparable pretty much immediately. We spent time each night and weekend hashing out everything from complex theology, to movie picks, to politics, and everything in between. We are women from different worlds, but there is a kindredness in our hearts that makes our connection unlike any other I have. I love Nickie with my whole heart and I would go anywhere she asked me to because I trust every part of her. Nickie has persevered and stayed faithful through any and all setbacks life has thrown at her, and always with a victorious spirit- just like the meaning of her name, “victory.” She believes in me in a way I still can’t understand, and I, in her. I have never met someone whose words pierce the core of my being and are the exact words I need in the moment. They have weight, power, truth, and most of all, love. So much love. Nickie Lou- thank you for sharing Tuesday lunch with me and for being in my life. We have so many more stories to tell and I can’t wait to come back to Boston to visit you soon for more time in your presence. 💕💗Love you so much.
