Borne out of humble beginnings as a food truck hunting down the best farm-sourced ingredients, Odd Duck brings farm-to-table cuisine to Austin. In a modern-rustic setting, this 110-seat eatery serves dishes that rely on seasonal ingredients.

Menus vary by the season, but past highlights have included the steaming hot onion bread with housemade butter; the ham and cheese pretzel; Cajun grilled shrimp over okra stew; and a soft cooked duck egg with fried rice and gourmet mushrooms. Next, order the succulent lamb ribs in a soy glaze, or go for the foie gras mousse with a cured duck breast and figs. Save room for the fig trifle, lime panna cotta, or a coconut latte popsicle for dessert. Draft beer, signature cocktails, and wine are also served.

The restaurant serves dinner daily, while lunch is served weekdays. Swing by for happy hour 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and don't miss brunch 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Sundays.

It’s a very curious sensation: You’re inside a dark room for a bit too long and when you step back outside into the bright sunlight, you suddenly feel a sneezing fit coming on. What’s the deal?

Staring at the sun makes about 20 to 35 percent of humans sneeze, and although scientists have a general idea of what causes this sensation, it’s still a very confusing conundrum. The phenomenon, which is known as “photic sneeze reflex,” is actually a genetic trait, which is why it only affects a small percentage of people. These people have visual systems that are more sensitive than those of other people, causing them to become agitated by the sunlight and send panicked responses to all of the nerves in the face, including the somatosensory system, which controls sneezing!

Now, go ahead and impress your friends with this new tidbit of information!

Shara Funari and Leigh Taylor Wyatt arrived at glass blowing from very different backgrounds. Shara didn't pick up the art until 2004, honing what was then a hobby at a public glass blowing studio in 2004. Leigh relocated to Texas in 2006 specifically to further her glass blowing career and to be closer to family. However, for both women, glass blowing eventually evolved into a passion; this is why they opened East Side Glass Studio in Austin.

At the studio, the public can come in to watch Shara and Leigh blow glass, or they can join in themselves. Intro classes are held a few times over the course of a month, teaching newbies the basics of glass blowing. Visitors can come in for a one-off experience where they learn the bare-bone fundamentals and then create their own glass masterpiece in a single session.

Clothing swaps are becoming increasingly popular ways to recycle your old clothes and gain some new-to-you favorites in return. By simply inviting a few friends to bring a few items each, you can organize a clothing swap in no time. Here are a few tips for pulling it off.

Get the word out. It’s best to invite 10 to 15 people for maximum swapping possibilities. Send out email invitations about one month in advance describing how to event works so that guests have ample time to start cleaning out their closets.
Choose the perfect space. If you live in a studio apartment, it may be best to host the swap at a friend’s house with a larger common space. Choose a living room or even a covered area in the backyard if it’s warm outside.
Get organized. Even among close friends, things can get a bit crazy if you simply dump the clothes into a pile and have at it. Create a type of system where each guest gets a certain number of items, or have the previous owners “auction” their pieces off by telling a background story about each item.
Settle fights efficiently. If more than one person wants a particular item, develop a system for deciding who should get it. Choose a name out of a hat, or if your friends feel comfortable, let the group decide who wears it best.

Just like peanut butter and jelly, burgers and craft beers are simply meant to be together. Austin’s Hopdoddy Burger Bar combines these two tasty indulgences, and it does so in a stylish location to boot. The South Congress location is often very crowded, which creates a fun, lively atmosphere that bolsters the restaurant’s overall funky vibe. The inside features modern decor with bold neon green chairs at the number of tables scattered throughout, as well as a spacious outdoor patio perfect for cooler evenings.

Unique burgers made entirely of antibiotic-free beef and housemade buns promise a fresh burger experience. Creative options like the tzatziki-smothered Greek or the Southwestern Terlingua feature Hopdoddy’s numerous toppings, and each one comes with Kennebec fries or chili con queso for even more delicious flavor. Finish your meal with a craft beer or one of Hopdoddy’s thick milkshakes—or splurge for both—and you’ll leave feeling full and satisfied.

If you love mazes and other types of tricky logic problems, logic mazes will take your hobby to the next level. These advanced mazes, sometimes called "mazes with rules," have special rules that extend far beyond simply navigating around a two-dimensional maze. In a logic maze, the participant must abide by the rules in order to reach the finish line, and they sometimes even include multiple states of the maze or the navigator.

Here are a few of the most common logic mazes.

Area mazes. These are mazes in which the area of tile traveled must alternately increase and decrease with each step.
Rolling dice mazes. A die is rolled with each turn based on a number of different rules.
Number mazes. A grid of numbers is traveled by moving the number of spaces shown in the current square.
Multi-state mazes. The rules in this type of maze change depending on the person's navigation.

Tacodeli’s owner, Roberto Espinosa, wanted to create a restaurant inspired by the food he missed from his hometown of Mexico City, and he trained for years in kitchens throughout the Yucatan to make him qualified to do so. The result is a small chain of restaurants throughout Austin, each of which is dedicated to using local ingredients and making each menu item entirely from scratch every day.

At Tacodeli, the menu comprises a very impressive variety of beef, chicken, pork, and vegetarian tacos with fresh sauces and garnishes, as well as salads, sides and starters that are equally authentic and delicious. If your taco craving starts as soon as you wake up, Tacodeli also offers breakfast tacos from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends.

Tacodeli's Spyglass location is bright and colorful, with a covered outdoor patio that makes the perfect spot for a relaxing lunch.

Austin is quickly becoming one of the most buzzed about food cities in the country, and its growing vegetarian restaurant scene is a major part of that growth. Here is just a sample of the area’s favorite meat-free restaurants.

Mother’s Cafe
With a casual atmosphere and convenient take-out and delivery services, Mother’s Cafe is one of Austin's go-to eateries for fast and affordable vegetarian and vegan food. One vegan and one vegetarian soup option is prepared daily, and the menu also includes a variety of fresh, colorful salads to choose from. Enchiladas and sandwiches are just as hearty and delicious as their meat-filled counterparts, and Mother’s Cafe also offers a weekend brunch that’s very popular among locals.

Mr. Natural
This impressive restaurant includes a bakery, juice bar, health food store, and even a yoga studio all in one place. The bakery offers cakes and pastries in gluten-free, vegan, and sugarless options to suit any diet, and the restaurant’s regular menu features creative vegetarian dishes for its weekly lunch specials, weekend brunch, and any other time of the day.

Swad Indian Vegetarian Restaurant
Indian restaurants are already popular among vegetarians because of their many meat-free options, but Swad Indian Vegetarian Restaurant is one of the only ones in Austin to offer an entirely meat-free menu!
