๐ดWINTER WEATHER TIPS:
What you need to do before:
Winter weather and possible wintry precipitation are in the forecast this weekend, and there are things you need to do now before temperatures drop Friday afternoon.
All of these steps focus on the big four Pโs (people, pipes, plants and pets).
To ensure your home and car are ready for freezing temperatures, take the following steps:
Charge electronics
Check flashlight batteries
Stock up on firewood if you have a fireplace
Have at least two days of supplies:
Purchase bottled water
Gather dry food and canned goods
Have any medication stored in advance
Pack an emergency kit for your vehicle that includes:
Traction aids (sand, salt, non-clumping cat litter or traction mats)
Shovel
Flashlight with extra batteries
Jumper cables or jump pack
Basic toolkit (screwdrivers, pliers, adjustable wrench, duct tape, plastic zip ties)
Tarp, raincoat and gloves to help stay clean/dry if you must get out of the vehicle
Rags, paper towels or pre-moistened wipes
Warning devices (flares, reflective triangles or LED beacons)
First-aid kit (check expiration date)
Drinking water
Snacks/food for your passengers and any pets
Ice scraper
Snow brush
Winter windshield washer solvent
Warm gloves, clothes, hats and blankets for all passengers in your car
Car charger for mobile phone
๐ดDO NOT DO THE FOLLOWING:
Donโt leave the house if roads are icy unless necessary
Donโt use a gas stove for heat
Donโt use your gas powered car for warmth if parked in an enclosed space (i.e. garage)
Donโt use your grill to stay warm indoors
Donโt leave your garage door open. Your home will remain warmer with it closed.
Donโt use hot water to melt frozen windows. The window will likely shatter.
Stay warm and stay safe.
