May 1 and 2, Wooldridge Square
Exciting times blocks from the Westgate as a Heritage Oak was moved from the Texas Bankers Association two blocks from our building to Wooldridge Square! The project costs have risen to over $300,000 to relocate, including a five year maintenance contract.
Charles Peveto, a Westgate owner and Co-Chair, Friends of Wooldridge Square was a park stakeholder in the project. A number of Westgate owners joined the excitement on Saturday May 1 for most of the relocation, including Douglas Moss, Carson Berry, and Judge Jan Patterson.
Lavaca and Guadalupe Streets had to be shut down for hours at a time as the tree made the three block move!
Wooldridge Square, one of the original four historic squares from the 1839 Edwin Waller’s Plan of Austin. The historically significant cultural landscape is listed in the National Register of Historic Places, designated a State Antiquities Landmark and an Austin City Landmark. Recently the square was awarded the Lone Star Legacy Park Award. What a SPECIAL PLACE blocks from Westgate Tower.
