For those of you interested in Doss Elementary, the preliminary TEA ratings give the campus a rating of A with an overall score of 95.

As tough as it can be to muster the last bit of energy to do one more school-related thing in May, we hope folks will take a minute to tell a teacher how truly special they are.

Over time our Texas Legislature has done a disservice to our public educators (yes, I'm talking to you Dan Patrick and the rest of the 2011 Legislative class). Funding for public education continues to erode, teacher salaries remain at abysmal levels, and yet expectations continue to climb. Standardized testing, entitled children, know-it-all parents, an endless pile of work, and low pay can easily suck the joy right out of the teaching profession.

So,.. If your child lights up when they talk about their teacher. If your child is excited to go to school. If your child can't wait to tell you something they learned that day, then please take a moment and thank your teacher for their commitment to our children and the future of our world.

And if you're extra-inspired, write a letter to a Legislator telling them to restore funding for education and make recapture more equitable.

Austin's 78731 zip code is known for having strong schools. The Austin Board of Realtors just released the January 2019 Austin real estate market stats for the neighborhood. Here's how homes fared:

➡️ While home prices continue to appreciate, I don't expect price growth to be what it was between 2012 and 2018, although the market is responding well to current interest rates and the Northwest HIlls portion of 78731 is highly sought after. All that to say it looks like the first half of the year will be solid.

➡️ If you are thinking of selling, hang on to your home if you can. If you must sell, make sure your home is in excellent condition. Buyers aren’t really interested in fixer uppers, but they will pay a premium for homes that are on trend. It can be painful to make improvements before selling, but we can help cover the upfront cost of cosmetic improvements and carry that debt until you pay it back at closing when your home sells – with no interest.
