Austin summers are not for the faint of heart. But if you know how to work with the heat instead of against it, they're actually pretty great.

If I had a summer bucket list, the must-haves:
✔️An early morning walk along Town Lake before the heat has any opinions about it.
✔️A laid back afternoon at Hula Hut, overlooking the water, margarita in hand, chips on the table, good company required.
✔️Do you even live in Central Texas if you don't spend at least one day at Schlitterbahn?
✔️A boat day on Lake Travis or a long weekend somewhere along the gulf coast when you need real water and a slower pace.
✔️And then you hold out for Bat Fest. Every summer needs a proper send-off.

Austin's patio season is officially here, and this city does it better than anywhere.

A few spots worth putting on your list this summer:

🌞Perla's on South Congress for oysters under the oak trees. There's a reason it's been a staple for years — the setting does half the work before the food even arrives.

🌞Hula Hut if you want to actually be on the water. Lady Bird Lake, Tex-Mex, and a frozen drink. Hard to argue with that on a long summer evening.

🌞The Salt Lick in Driftwood for when you want to get out of the city. All-you-can-eat brisket and ribs, family style, surrounded by Hill Country views. Take anyone visiting from out of town and they'll understand Austin immediately.

🌞Lenoir on South First for something a little more special — lanterns in the live oaks, natural wine, and food sourced from Texas farmers. One of those patios that makes you slow down.
