Happy World Oceans Day! Oceans are Earth’s
lifeline, producing over 50% of Earth’s oxygen
and storing 50 times more carbon than our
atmosphere. The ocean and its coastlines
represent ~61% of the world’s GDP.

Beaches cover a third of the world’s coastline,
connecting us to the ocean. Beach communities
rely on ocean health every day to keep their
economies thriving.

Protecting our beaches is essential to
conserving our ocean ecosystems. Keeping our
beaches litter-free, limiting the stormwater
runoff entering waterways, and utilizing nature
for storm protection are just three of many
direct impacts we can have on our oceans when
we protect our shores!

THIS WEEKEND IN AVALON: AHLOA COMMUNITY OPEN HOUSE, KIDS CORNER!

AHLOA’s Community Open House & Kids Korner is coming up on Saturday, June 13 from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Community Hall!

Families are especially encouraged to stop by and enjoy the Kids Korner, featuring interactive activities, games, crafts and giveaways hosted by the Avalon Free Public Library, Avalon NJ Police Department, Avalon Volunteer Fire Department and AHLOA. There will be plenty to keep kids entertained while parents and grandparents enjoy coffee, refreshments and community conversation.

Whether you’re a longtime resident, summer visitor or new to town, this is a great event for all ages. Stop by anytime – we hope to see you there!

JUNE 8TH: SEWER MAIN BREAK AT 27TH STREET AND DUNE DRIVE IN AVALON

27th Street in Avalon is closed from Dune Drive to First Avenue for a sewer main break. Repairs will be made throughout the day. Please avoid the area until the main is repaired, thank you.

It’s that time of year again. Turtle nesting season has begun!

Please remember the following:
1. Drive slowly and keep a lookout.
2. Allow plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.
3. Keep alert for stopped vehicles and people assisting turtles across the roadway.
4. If you do decide to assist a turtle, please do so with extreme caution.
5. Always place a turtle in the direction it was going, not where it just came from.
