Exactly three weeks ago today, the McCracken family welcomed our sweet baby girl, Aubrey Gail McCracken, into the world. She arrived at 34 weeks, and of all days, on her daddy’s birthday. Weighing in at 4 lbs 9 oz, she came into this world small but mighty, ready to meet us even though my body could no longer keep her safe inside. Her arrival was a blessing beyond words.
It’s taken me this long to share her birth for a few reasons. First, Aubrey is our rainbow baby, and her miraculous arrival has been filled with immense joy, but it has also brought up the deep, painful emotions of losing our sweet baby last June. To anyone who has experienced the heartbreak of losing a child, whether through miscarriage or otherwise, my deepest love and understanding go out to you. As a wise woman once told me, “Babies don’t replace babies,” and while welcoming this beautiful soul is the most wonderful thing, it’s hard to celebrate without honoring the angel we never got to hold.
The second reason for the delay is that we still can’t quite believe she’s here. After a dramatic IVF pregnancy, where fear overshadowed much of our journey, it’s hard to let go of that fear and fully embrace that she’s perfect in every way.
All of this, however, is a prelude to the most important message I have: my deepest gratitude to my incredible family. Joshua, you are my best friend, my rock, and the best dad our children could ever ask for. Thank you for being strong when I couldn’t be and for holding me through every step of this journey. To my soon-to-be third-grader, Skyler, you are the best big brother. I’m so lucky to call you my son, and I love you to the ends of the earth. To my momma, you are superwoman. Your unconditional love, support, and grace in stepping into the hardest moments with determination are unmatched. I know Josh couldn’t have made it through last week without your unwavering help.
