What is a Pre-Approval, and why is it so important?

What is a Pre-Approval letter?
It is a lender’s willingness to lend you a certain amount, up to a specified limit, for a mortgage.

What it is not:
It is not a guaranteed loan offer, and the lender may still require specific information and verification before a final approval/ finalized loan.

Why is it so important to get pre-approved?
It gives you a budget to work with when starting your home search.
It makes potential offers more attractive, and shows you are a serious buyer.
It helps you understand how much you may be able to spend, and what type of mortgage loans you qualify for.

How do I get pre-approved?
The best first step is always to reach out to multiple reputable mortgage lenders. This can help you get a clear picture of what may be available to you, and it can even allow you to find a better mortgage offer.
