A new neighborhood on Bainbridge Island

ROOST is the culmination of over a decade of thinking about design, housing and life… It's been the subject of countless dinner parties; both actual conversation and simple observation. It's the acute awareness of what grabs our attention and holds our heart as we live our lives truly believing that design matters to our individual, and collective, well-bei

ng. We feel that the threads of life that stitch together a life well lived, are not defined by the number of bedrooms, square footage or even a certain aesthetic; but rather environments that support human comfort, both physically and mentally, and are rich in thoughtfulness, not gratuity. ROOST is shaped by these values… spaces that graciously welcome friends, yet are also comforting and private when the mood or moment require; spaces that are hardworking, not wasteful. Authentic spaces; able to accommodate the personality of unique individuals and families.

A vintage anchor bouy (from what we’d guess was a fairly large ship), washed up on the beach just across the street from ROOST quite some time ago. Every year, it slowly filled with more and more sand until only the top quarter showed. Since we have such an affinity for all things rusty, we commissioned a salvage and were rewarded with a nearly complete sphere. It has been the backbone of many as an art installation, and Instagram post! It was worth the fight we had to endure to save it from being deemed inconvenient and destroyed. In life, we all have battles to pick and this was one of ours.

At ROOST, we are all about connection and staying rooted to our past. Our site sign is made of the wood from an old shed that we painstakingly dismantled during our land prep stage, and the 1952 Dodge truck you see displayed is the best orange-y red there is! This treasure provided us with the inspiration for ROOST. The 1930s “Brick House” is the matriarch of ROOST and creates balance, texture, and charm to our community story. Learn more about the big plans we have for the brick house by visiting the link in our bio!

Sometimes you really have to fight to keep what’s good!

This Japanese Maple Tree caused us a lot of angst. Sub after sub could NOT understand why it was important to save this tree, when it was clearly IN THE WAY. In the end, we prevailed after convincing our Civil Contractor, Liden Land Development and Excavation, who took up our cause and defended our tree to the end! Look how beautiful it is even after suffering broken limbs from less then careful delivery trucks, lots of digging in and around, and just general mayhem. We are so proud of her!
