KERN COUNTY FIRE HAZARD REDUCTION PROGRAM
MUST BE COMPLETED BY JUNE 1st
REQUIRED CLEARANCE GUIDELINES
100’ total clearance around ALL structures. Two zones make up the required 100’ of defensible space
**Zone 1 **
extending 30’ from the structure, remove ALL non-ornamental combustible fuels in this area
o Store firewood outside of this zone.
o Remove any dead/dry material such as grass, leaves, needles, limbs, etc.
o Maintain spacing between ornamental vegetation.
o Remove all dead limbs that are overhanging any structures
o 10’ clearance around stovepipe/chimney outlets
o Clear roof of all combustible vegetation and debris
o 10’ clearance around LPG tanks
**Zone 2**
30’ to 100’ from the structure, reduce ALL combustible fuels in this area
o Limb trees and bushes to avoid contact with ground and ladder fuels
o Remove lower limbs of all non-ornamental trees to a height of 6’ off the ground
o Create spacing between trees and bushes to reduce contact with each other
10’ clearance around ALL property lines of vacant lots that encroach on the 100’ defensible space of neighboring structures
Remove accumulation of combustible fuels that can be deemed a fire hazard
