🔥 CHIMNEY FIRES: What This Buildup Can Tell Us

This is a real chimney encountered during service, and it’s an important example of why chimney maintenance matters.

The flue contained a significant accumulation of thick, glazed creosote that showed evidence of exposure to extreme heat and burning.

Creosote is a combustible byproduct of wood burning. As deposits accumulate inside a chimney, they can ignite. A chimney fire can expose the flue and surrounding chimney system to extreme temperatures, potentially damaging liners, masonry and nearby construction.

The time to find conditions like this is before you’re ready to light your first fire of the season.

Fall appointments are beginning to fill. Call or text (661) 218-7776 to schedule as soon as possible.

September Is National Preparedness Month

September is a great time to prepare the parts of your home that handle heat, combustion, and exhaust before cooler weather arrives.

For homeowners, that includes:

🔥 Fireplace and chimney sweeping & inspection
🏠 Chimney caps, spark arresters, masonry, and exterior condition
👕 Dryer vent systems and combustible lint buildup

Taking care of these items now can help identify maintenance or repair needs before fireplaces and dryers are working harder later in the year.

Kern County Chimney Sweeping proudly serves Bakersfield and communities throughout Kern County.

🍂 Fall Fireplace Season Starts Now

Cooler weather is coming. Now is the time to have your fireplace, gas insert, wood stove, wood insert or pellet appliance inspected and serviced before the holiday rush.

And don’t forget the dryer vent — combustible lint and restricted airflow can develop out of sight.

🍂Cooler Nights Are Coming — Is Your Fireplace Ready?

September has arrived, football weekends are back, pumpkin spice is everywhere, and before long fireplaces across Kern County will be firing up again.

The best time to find out whether your fireplace, stove, chimney, or venting system needs attention is before the first cold night you want to use it — not when the holiday rush is already here.

A professional inspection can help identify soot and creosote accumulation, deterioration, obstructions, damaged components, animal activity, water-related issues, and other conditions that may have developed since last season.

Get ahead of the Fall rush: Schedule TODAY!

🔍Have your hearth system evaluated before regular use begins.

Anyone can “clean” a dryer vent. A professional tidies-up before leaving your home.

What you’re looking at is dryer lint that was brushed out of this rooftop dryer vent system during a previous dryer vent service by another company — and then left behind on the roof.

Instead of being collected and removed, the lint was allowed to sit outside, dry out, and adhere to the concrete roof tiles. It accumulated in the roof tile drainage channels where rainwater is intended to flow downslope, and some of it remained stuck around the warm dryer vent termination.

Remember: dryer lint is highly combustible🔥

During our service, we didn’t just brush the vent clear. We also removed the old lint debris from the roof tiles, drainage channels, and surrounding termination area.

Dryer vent service should mean more than simply pushing lint from Point A to Point B. The job isn’t finished until the debris is properly collected, removed, and the work area is left clean.

That’s the difference between getting the vent “cleaned” and having it professionally serviced.

Schedule your professional dryer vent service today.

🕊️ Dove Season Begins TOMORROW!

September 1st is Opening Day of Dove Season, and here in Kern County it’s not unusual to see mourning doves perched right on top of chimneys.

That makes this a perfect reminder of why a properly fitted chimney cap/spark arrester is such an important part of protecting your chimney and home.

An open chimney can allow birds and other wildlife to enter the flue. Once inside, birds can become trapped and may not survive. Nests, feathers and droppings can also create odors, messes and potentially dangerous obstructions.

A chimney cap can also help protect against:

🐦‍⬛Birds and other wildlife
🌧️ Destructive rain entry
🍂 Leaves, debris and obstructions
🪺 Nesting material
🔥 Escaping sparks

Even if you rarely or never use your fireplace, the chimney itself is still exposed to the weather and wildlife 365 days a year.

We have CHIMNEY CAPS IN-STOCK

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION FRIDAY: SMALL SCREEN. BIG PROTECTION.

A properly installed spark arrester does much more than finish off the top of your chimney. It helps contain sparks and embers before they can escape onto your roof or surrounding combustible vegetation, while also helping keep rain, birds, squirrels, leaves, pine needles, and debris out of the chimney.

California residential requirements address spark arresters, and chimney safety standards recognize their important role in a properly maintained venting system.

Before the first fire of the season, make sure the entire chimney system — including the top — is ready.
