This morning, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Bald Head Island Public Safety Officers honored the fallen as they do every year by climbing the 108 steps of Old Baldy... again and again, symbolic of the steps first responders took at the World Trade Center. This afternoon, the Village Chapel of Bald Head Island held a service dedicated to remembrance, reflection and renewal on this solemn occasion.

Some dates hold a permanent space in our collective memory, carrying stories of profound loss alongside unforgettable displays of human courage. As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11th, we are reminded of the fragile nature of our world and the enduring strength found within our community. Tomorrow, the Village Chapel of Bald Head Island will have a special service dedicated to remembrance, reflection and renewal.

Surf fishing with a cause this October!!

Save the dates.

The 2nd Annual BHI Surf Fishing Tournament — October 9-11, 2026, Bald Head Island.

Youth and Adult divisions. Five species on the board plus a Slot Red Drum shootout. Weigh-ins at the Yacht Club, awards Sunday afternoon.

$75 per angler. Registration is open now, and so are volunteer and sponsor slots.

Every dollar goes to Kids Making It, the Wilmington woodworking program that puts tools in kids' hands.
