Question F Statement on Baltimore Banner Story "Has race played a role in some people’s opposition to Harborplace?"

Question F is about moving Baltimore forward, not back, and the offensive racist images and stereotypes are taking us back to a grim time in our city and country. These opponents are insulting and demeaning Black Baltimoreans, but all Baltimoreans should be appalled and reject their outrageous attacks, including at the ballot box. Their message is beneath us as a community and a city.

Mayor Kurt Schmoke is voting YES on Question F.

"More than four decades ago, a visionary developer – in the face of opposition – reimagined our city’s inner harbor and created what became our crown jewel. Harborplace has since then been the heart of our downtown, but it no longer elicits civic pride the way it once did. It’s time for a new generation of Baltimoreans to reimagine it as a vibrant destination for all of us. A vote for question F is a vote for Baltimore’s future.” – Kurt Schmoke, Mayor of Baltimore City (1987–1999)

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is voting YES on Question F.

"So many of us have cherished memories from time spent at Harborplace as children. But we can’t allow nostalgia for what once was stand in the way of us building the Baltimore that our children deserve. When we embrace progress, we embrace a better future. Question F will pave the way for a better future for Harborplace and for the city we all love.” – Mayor Stephanie C. Rawlings-Blake (2013-2017)

Mayor Jack Young is voting YES on Question F.

“The debate over a new Harborplace and Question F has brought out some of the worst tendencies in our City – to bet against ourselves. We have been disrespected and underserved by out of state owners of Harborplace for too long. We have the chance to bet big on Baltimore and bet big on our future – not hold on to some old ideas from before most of the City was born. That’s why I’m supporting Question F.” – Mayor Bernard C. “Jack” Young (2019-2020)
