I’d love for the post to highlight a challenge that comes up often in design: sometimes we aren’t starting with a blank slate. While this isn’t necessarily the furniture I would have selected if we were furnishing the room from scratch, the client wanted to keep and use pieces they already owned. Part of good design is figuring out how to make existing pieces work together in a fresh, cohesive way.

The goal of this project was to show how we could transform the space while incorporating furniture the client already had. One of the ways I did that was by adding an upholstered backing behind the bed to create more warmth, texture, and a custom feel. And then I framed it with full-height drapery and a tailored box pleat valance to add height and elegance.

Matching three-drawer nightstands bring balance to the space, while framed mirrors, ceramic planters, and decorative accessories add personality and visual interest. I also layered new bedding with a mix of textures and patterns to create a finished look that feels comfortable and refined, and an upholstered bench at the foot of the bed adds both function and another layer of softness.

The finished reveal is coming soon, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

The biggest word behind this space was FUN. The client wanted something moody, interesting, and a little unexpected — a space where friends and family gather, stay awhile, and keep noticing new details every time they look around.

Nothing too serious. Nothing too perfect. Just layered lighting, vintage-inspired touches, bold artwork, neon, texture, and the kind of atmosphere that makes people want to pour another drink and settle in.

This was a special one from start to finish, and I’m excited to share that we officially closed!
