Mention Beech Mountain and most people immediately think of skis, snowboards and winter weekends. ❄️ But spend a full year here and you'll quickly realize: Beech Mountain is WAY more than a ski town.

A few places I'd put on your list for your next visit:

⛷️ Beech Mountain Resort — Absolutely a winter favorite, but the mountain doesn't shut down when the snow melts. Summer brings mountain biking, scenic lift rides, live music and plenty of reasons to head back up the mountain.

🌈 Land of Oz — Yes, there's an actual Yellow Brick Road hiding on top of Beech Mountain! The historic theme park opens for its seasonal Autumn at Oz event, and it's one of the most wonderfully unique experiences you'll find anywhere in the High Country.

🛒 Fred's General Mercantile — A Beech Mountain institution and a special place where you can grab a little bit of everything while you're on the mountain.

🍂 Buckeye Lake & Recreation Area — Hiking, fishing, paddling and beautiful scenery that changes right along with the seasons.

Even now, two years later, we are still talking about Helene. We are asking where folks were, what they lost, and how they recovered. Someday, the story of Helene will be something future generations have only heard stories about instead of experienced first hand.

And while I hope they learn about the storm, I pray they hear more about the people.

The neighbors who became rescuers. The businesses that became supply centers. The strangers who became friends. The communities that refused to leave anyone behind.

Blowing Rock is a mountain town that's just as much fun to wander as it is to have a plan. ❤️ Park the car, take a walk down Main Street, pop into a few shops, grab something to eat, spend some time in the park... and somehow an entire afternoon disappears!

A few places I'd be sure to put on your list for your next visit:

🌄 The Blowing Rock — You can't spotlight Blowing Rock without the landmark that gave the town its name. The views alone are well worth the visit.

🛝 Memorial Park — Right in the middle of downtown; it makes Blowing Rock feel especially family-friendly and welcoming.

🛍️ Main Street — Local shops, restaurants, galleries and plenty of reasons to take your time exploring. There are too many favorites here to name just one!

🥾 Glen Burney Falls — One of the best reminders that you can be right in downtown Blowing Rock and still have a beautiful mountain hike practically at your doorstep.
