The Holmes murder Castle at 611 West 63rd Street was razed in 1938. H. H. Homes is thought to have disposed of at least six victims here. Newspaper accounts of the time claim it was closer to 200. His macabre hotel was supposedly outfitted with trapdoors, gas chambers and a basement crematorium.

The U.S. government purchased the building and lot to build a new post office which is still extant. Parts of the original foundation are said to still exist and the basement is supposedly haunted. Holmes was alleged to have killed 27 people that he confessed to, and was hung for a single murder in 1896. A movie based on “The Devil and the White City” book is still supposed to be in development.

The “L” structure in the background is part of the Englewood line built in 1905 that is connected to the original “Alley L” built in 1893 that carried passengers from the Loop to the Columbian Exposition.that today is part of the Green Line.

99 Milner Road in Rondebosch, Cape Town, widely known as the “Spook House,” is a three-storey red brick residence built in 1904 by Dutch born architect Anthony de Witt for Dutch ambassador Jac Loopuyt. Over the years it has gained a reputation for hauntings, with stories of ghostly figures, flickering lights, and slamming doors circulating among passers by and students. However, longtime resident Marcus Karlien, whose family bought the then dilapidated 24 room house at auction in 1984, maintains that the house is entirely benign, attributing early creaks and noises to its age and wooden structure. Despite its colourful folklore and notable past owners, including opera singer Cecilia Wessels, the house remains more a product of legend than of proven paranormal activity.
