Today, we pause to honor, reflect, and celebrate Juneteenth—a pivotal day in American history that marks the liberation of the last enslaved Black Americans.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, to officially announce that more than 250,000 enslaved individuals were free. This historic moment came more than two and a half years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.

Honoring Our History: Yarmouth’s Legacy of Liberty Celebration 🇺🇸✨

As we look toward America’s 250th anniversary, our local history takes center stage right here on the Cape. This Saturday, June 20, 2026, the community is coming together for a historic event to honor the 447 Patriots from Old Yarmouth who served in the American Revolution.

Representing one of the most comprehensive local tributes to Revolutionary War service in Massachusetts, this day-long celebration will bring history to life with colonial craftspeople, living history interpreters, local militia encampments, and period music.

If you are looking for a meaningful way to plug into the community this weekend, this completely free event is a beautiful reflection of the deep-rooted history that makes living on Cape Cod so special.
