Drought Message From Chief Frederickson

As of Tuesday August 9th, Yarmouth was declared to be in a Level 2 limited- Significant Drought. Additionally, the Yarmouth water system is experiencing extremely high demands, while operating under reduced capacity due to three wells being offline for PFAS contamination.

While in a Level 2 or Significant Drought any use of public water for automatic irrigation systems is prohibited at any time. Lawn watering is restricted to handheld only one day per week, after 5 pm to before 9 am.

Flower beds and vegetable gardens can still be watered by hand only at any time. Washing of vehicles is discouraged. Cleaning of driveways, sidewalks or other impervious areas is not allowed.

Our water situation is serious. It is impacting the ability of our firefighters to access the necessary water pressure to fight fires. Just last Thursday the ability to get water pressure to fight a fire at the transfer station was questionable. Please do your very best with water conservation during this challenging period.

I don’t have a poem bust here are a few lines that might help this message sink in:

“You have the power to shorten your shower”

“There is a thin line between using water and wasting water, think about it.”

And finally, from Benjamin Franklin: “When the well is dry, we learn the worth of water.”

Together we have gotten through nor easters, tornados, blizzards, and hurricanes. So now we can add a drought to the list. We appreciate your cooperation with this effort and hopefully we will over this in a few weeks.

Snow removal is still underway. Once our customers have been cleared we will be available for storm damage assessment and repairs. Stay safe, stay warm!

WINTER STORM UPDATE | January 29, 2022 | 8:00PM

It has been a difficult afternoon. The heavy bands of snow that came later in the afternoon set all the roads considerably back. Additionally, the whiteout conditions made it almost impossible for the plow drivers to see, and at one point we had to cease plowing operations all together. We have now resumed and are heading back onto all roads. The plan for this evening is to try and get all roads open and passible for emergency service vehicles. At that point we will need to break and let crews sleep, returning in the morning to start the clean up process.

Significant winter weather is expected this weekend. WE will be out attempting to maintain access for all our valued snow clients during the storm. Please prepare for a few days of being at home with possible power outages.

After the plowing is over we offer storm damage removal and roof raking.

We typically don't share this kind of thing on our business page, but I'd like to ask a favor...

The park that Ben & I got married at, (where I take the kids every chance I get and is one of my favorite places on Cape) is currently having a fundraiser. They have applied to become part of The Trustees, and as long as they meet the fundraising goal - they're in!

Having Armstrong-Kelley Park become a part of the trustees is HUGE NEWS. It means protection from development and helps with ongoing maintenance and care, something they have always struggled with running on volunteers alone for 8.5 acres of work!
