1. Change all exterior door locks (or rekey). You don’t know who could have a copy of the last owner’s keys. Many Home Warranties provide this service.
2. Change garage codes & smart lock access
3. Change toilet seats (simple, inexpensive, and gives peace of mind) 4. Locate and label:
• Main water shutoff
• Electrical panel
• HVAC system
• Water heater
5. Test smoke detectors & carbon monoxide detectors. Your inspector did this, but it’s been close to 30 days since it was done.
6. Replace HVAC air filters. It’s good to know when it was replaced and then set reminders for the next replacement.
7. Save closing documents digitally (CD, deed, survey, warranty info). It’s very important to keep these and know where those documents are.
8. Change address on your drivers license.
9. File homestead exemption (if applicable)
10. Refer back to inspection report for things that still may need to be addressed & make a plan to tackle them.
