CREATE LOCAL OPPORTUNITY FOR JOBS & PROSPERITY
We all seek financial security and independence. A vibrant local economy with a variety of businesses and industries generates more possibilities for prosperity for people. Make your town a “Community of Opportunity” by developing incubator spaces and support systems that make an impact.
Most business establishments are small. In the US and Canada, approximately 57% have 4 employees or less [75% have 9 or fewer]. In Europe, those proportions jump to 90% and 95%, respectively. These sorts of enterprises benefit from the small, flexible, business-friendly environments delivered by incubators focused on hometown jobs. Empty or underutilized factories, commercial buildings, schools, and churches, can be the ”raw material” to provide needed micro and small spaces [100 SF to 2,500 SF] for entrepreneurs to get started, survive, and grow. Strategically planned and operated incubators are both a tool and the funding source for such endeavors.
In the absence of an appropriate building, community-centric support systems can be creatively implemented. Organizing gatherings of local business owners to share “best practices”, establishing mentoring programs, and starting strategic rent subsidies for targeted industries are just a few examples of incentives that might be able to be developed.
You are who you are - Be local, be sustainable. Nobody cares more about your community and neighbors than you. Find ways to use local resources to structure systems that take advantage of your town’s unique character to be successful in “the long game” of ongoing business attraction. Do it by coordinating existing components [people & places] or establishing a focused business incubator to lead the ecosystem efforts.
Jobs need space. Business incubators can be your key to unlocking [and paying for] the endless effort for economic development required in our rapidly changing world. An effective, financially sustainable incubator facility provides a foundation for community success. Take advantage of the empty or underutilized industrial and commercial buildings in your hometown to create a “Community of Opportunity” for you and your neighbors!
