I see people painting brick a lot. While it makes the house look nicer, there are problems when you do this. Id recommend looking into lime white washing if you really want to change color of the brick.

Yes! Painting bricks can actually damage them. They can not regulate moisture correctly! Porous material like brick needs the be able to release the moisture away from the home!
