Maine Housing and MMCA will never ask for banking or credit/debit card information as part of your LiHEAP application.

If you’re concerned that you may have submitted a scam application, contact your local Community Action Agency to see if they received your online application.

In September, Bath Housing partnered with New Hope Midcoast for positive discussion around ‘Respect, Privacy and Healthy Relationships in Our Community.’ Nicole, New Hope Community Prevention Educator, met with residents to review challenges within community living, including personal boundaries, recognize respectful vs disrespectful behavior, everyone’s rights to privacy and consent, learn what to do if someone makes them uncomfortable and resources to include knowing where to go for help.

New Hope Midcoast works hard to empower their clients; they offer a wide range of supports and services including a 24:7 helpline, legal and court support, emergency sheltering, medical forensic exams, group healing and transitional housing. Often, seniors are a vulnerable population; Nicole offered insight with residents on how to identify abuse for yourself or someone else and how to access needed support.

According to the National Network to End Domestic Violence, In 2026, Maine’s 20th Annual Domestic Violence Counts Report shows that 38% of domestic violence programs provided support to older/elder victims, and the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence (MCEDV) reports that 1 in 4 women and 1 in 10 men statewide have experienced intimate partner violence, with a significant share of those being older adults.

These colder nights have many of us thinking about winter heating—and that means that now is the perfect time to think about a fuel tank rocket gauge. These ingenious devices make it possible to read your oil level on a display screen inside your home without having to make a potentially dangerous trip to the basement or trudge through the snow this winter to an outdoor tank. This can also help to prevent emergencies that result from not realizing when you are about to run out of fuel.

Community Involvement Day was a blast this year -- perfect weather, so many wonderful conversations, lots of help building Lego houses with our new friends, and TWO Bath Housing awards. Thank you to the City of Bath for their work each year in making this day happen -- it's a reminder of what an amazing community this is.

Bath Housing's Volunteer Tech Support Team was recognized with the Community Project Award. Through their patience, generosity, and countless hours of volunteer service, they have helped Bath Housing residents stay connected, access important resources, and build confidence with technology. Their kindness, expertise, and patience have made a lasting difference!

We also congratulate Bath Housing's Executive Director Debora Keller who was recognized with the Al Smith Community Spirit Award in recognition of her vision, leadership, and steadfast commitment to the community.

Last week, this community lost one of the great ones. Catherine Powers – known to many as just Missus P . . . or just Katy. She had a whole career in the Bath school system and there are so many lovely stories of her impact on the young people of our community.

But we knew her as our leader. Katy served on the Bath Housing Authority Board of Commissioners for 23 years – with 19 as Chair. She did so with unbelievable humility. In fact, she always said she got the role as Board Chair only because she drove by the office daily and could easily sign checks. But that doesn’t begin to capture the value she brought to this organization.

Last year, when she retired from the board, we posted this tribute to Katy to honor her work with Bath Housing. It’s worth a re-read! Our love goes out to her family, friends, and the huge number of people she impacted in her lifetime.

Over the course of 12 weeks this summer, Bath Housing partnered with ecomaine to raise awareness, educate and increase recycling efforts with residents at the Moorings. During this period, Ecomaine conducted weekly audits, distributed education materials, delivered a presentation, attended by 10 residents, held a follow-up tabling session, and posted signage.

The findings showed significant improvement in recycling at this property! The contamination rate decreased from 14% to 7.9%. This helped improve their recycling volume, which increased buy 42%! That means less trash, which was also independently observed by our trash collector.

Just imagine: If Moorings residents keep recycling at this rate, they could divert 9,812 lbs. of material from our landfills in just one year!

Due to the success of this program, as well as the positive engagement and feedback from residents (who are regularly sporting their new, Ecomaine reusable recycling bags), we are planning to offer the program at Seacliff, Dike’s Landing, 520, 540, and 550 Centre St.

One resident summed it up perfectly: “I recycle. It’s important that everyone recycles.”
