Baton Rouge sees the nation’s biggest decline in homes for sale

"Seasonally adjusted new listings of homes for sale were down 9% in September from a year earlier, only the second decline since February. New listings fell from a year ago in 75 of the 85 largest metro areas. The biggest declines were in Baton Rouge, LA (-59%), Allentown, PA (-57%) and Salt Lake City (-51%)."

Baton Rouge, suburbs grow in population while rural parishes decline, Census data shows - The Advocate News

"East Baton Rouge remained Louisiana's largest parish in 2020 and grew slightly faster than the state over the past decade. But it also fell in the middle of the pack for growth among other big urban parishes in Louisiana. Ascension and West Baton Rouge parishes saw the second and third fastest growth rates in Louisiana between 2010 and 2020."

Baton Rouge home sales mirror national trends

"Baton Rouge was among the cities with the largest gains in sales, according to Redfin, with sales rising 26%. Other cities with similar gains include Bridgeport, Connecticut, (38%) and San Jose, California, (33%)."

Baton Rouge area home sales continue hot streak; See how much they increased in February - The Advocate

"The number of homes sold in metro Baton Rouge was 27.1% higher in February than the year before, continuing a nine-month hot streak of year-to-year double-digit percentage increases in houses sold. There were 943 homes sold in the nine-parish area in February, according to figures released Monday by the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors' Multiple Listing Service, up from 742 sales in February 2020. Record-low interest rates have helped the market roar back after down months caused by the coronavirus pandemic."

"A surge of home sales in June helped offset earlier declines triggered by the coronavirus pandemic and put the Baton Rouge area just 1.9% below 2019 levels at midyear. Chelsea Meng, president of the Greater Baton Rouge Association of Realtors, said while fears about the coronavirus pandemic caused sales to slow up in March and April, activity has rebounded. There were 1,243 MLS sales in June, a 21.7% increase over the 1,021 sales in June 2019."
