This is probably the most distinctly Mid City Baton Rouge dessert choice. The current menu has Lemon Icebox, Coconut Cream, S’mores, Turtle and Chocolate Cream pies, plus the Eye of the Tiger—lemon icebox pie with blueberry whipped cream. Their baked-to-order apple pie with ice cream sounds particularly dangerous.

Spoke & Hub — 5412 Government St.
More of a sit-down dessert experience. It has a dedicated dessert bar with things like big shakes, floats, cake and croffles; 225 has highlighted creations such as the Brownie Mountain Shake and strawberry shortcake parfait.

Mid City Bakery
Worth watching for orders/pop-ups rather than treating it like a traditional walk-in bakery. They do cookies, brownies, hand pies, cinnamon rolls, pound cakes and other baked treats; 225 specifically lists them among Baton Rouge cottage bakers to follow for orders and pop-ups.

INTERNATIONAL COFFEE DAY! Let's celebrate by take a look at some history behind one of Mid-CIty's newest coffee shops, Las Brujas...

a small farm where members of four generations of the Villa family lived. David's grandfather, aunt and David himself were born in the original farm house.

Through the years many farm animals (horses, cows, goats, pigs, chickens, rabbits), gardens, fruit trees were kept in different parts of the farm.

What was always there, under the shade of trees lining the pastures were established coffee bushes. Caretakers of the place would harvest, hull and dry the coffee beans to sell as small cash crop, a perk to their employment.

David's father remembers helping them through the process until the sisal sacks of dried coffee were filled to be taken down to sell in the small town.
