I sold real estate for 27 years and I loved it.

Real estate taught me countless lessons about people and life and how to solve problems.

Real estate provided the flexibility I needed to be there for all of Jay’s events, to support Scott through 8 rounds with cancer, and provide much needed care and support to my mom and dad in their last years.

I met some of the most interesting people and many of you became lifelong friends. Social media has allowed us to stay in contact, as many of you have spread out to all corners of the world.

I am reticent to call anyone out by name lest I forget someone, but so many of you were integral to the success of my real estate career and I am grateful. Thank you for believing in me.

I am retiring from real estate with clear eyes and a full heart.

I end this with a heartfelt thank you to all of you who were a part of my journey.

Chris Geeting Huff and I first met as competitors. In the first picture, she is in the pink to my right.

Back in 2012 and 2013, the two of us ran a lot of races. It just so happened that we were in the same age bracket and every time I saw her on a start line, I knew I better bring my A-game.

July 4th of 2013, I ran a 5k race in Richland. I could hear someone’s footsteps off my shoulder for the entire race. I vowed to myself that I was not going to let that person pass me. It was Chris. What I didn’t know at that time was that I had paced her to a PR, or personal record. The second picture was taken that day, as Chris was celebrating her fun achievement!

The third picture is of Chris’ mother and step-father’s house. All these years later, Chris reached out to me and asked for my help in the sale of the house. Chris and her husband did everything I asked them to do to get the house ready for the market—they worked for several months. I then listed the house and we closed on it last Monday. It was my privilege to help Chris through that process.

The moral of this story? Sometimes competitors become friends and that is a very cool thing.

Thank you Chris for reaching out to me after all of these years and trusting me to help you get the house sold. I appreciate you.

25 years ago today I started selling real estate.

On August 1, 1997, Jim Dearing at RE/MAX Perrett took a chance on the new kid from out of town and I’ve been there ever since.

Carla Dearing welcomed Scott and I into the family, as if we were her own kids and always made us feel loved.

Lisa Dearing Damron has stood by my side and helped me negotiate the uncertain path of continuing on in my real estate career, while supporting Scott on his medical journey. There were days when I just simply could not do both and on those days she helped me attain medical leaves.

I’ve worked with some of the best in the business at RE/MAX Perrett and am grateful for all of the knowledge and wisdom they willingly poured into me.

I had the privilege of being a part of recruiting Chris Sargent, Jeffrey Penick
and Brian Gelletich into the business. All 3 of them became like brothers to me.

I was lucky enough to cross paths with Jennie Bull Haggerty at Devon Title. She provides excellent service to my clients and I am even luckier to call her friend.

Colleen Donnelly-Maire and I bonded over frozen cookie dough, while venting to each other about our daily trials and tribulations in the business. Some day I may recover from the fact that she retired from the mortgage loan business several years ago. She was the best in the business and I miss her every day.

Hank Avink you made me more efficient and for that I thank you.

I’ve met people from all over the world and developed friendships for which I will be eternally grateful.

In those 25 years, I’ve learned some invaluable lessons about myself, other people and how the world works.

I wish that I had taken detailed notes, so that I could remember all of the stories. I know there would have been sufficient material for a book and yet, some of the wilder stories will never be repeated.

I’m certain I have a multitude of pictures similar to this one that I could post, but this is one of the most recent. I helped these dear friends buy a house 22 years ago and in June I helped them sell that house and buy their dream home. I will cherish moments like this one for the rest of my days.

My heart is full and I am grateful to all of you who have been a part of the last 25 years. Thank you.
