Could rerouting M 15 across Independence Bridge finally give Bay County a path toward fewer trucks downtown and a better long term solution for the bridge?

I believe this proposal deserves a serious look.

Bay County Road Commissioner Bill Jordan is calling for M 15 to be extended through the Trumbull Street corridor, across Independence Bridge and west along Wilder Road toward I 75.

I support getting Bay City, Bay County, the Road Commission, BCATS and MDOT around the same table to determine exactly what it would take.

For years, Bay City taxpayers have carried infrastructure that serves the entire region. If this proposal can help move heavy truck traffic away from downtown and our neighborhoods, strengthen our regional road system, shift greater responsibility to the state and potentially create a path toward reducing or eliminating tolls on Independence Bridge, we need to pursue it.

I’m not going to promise something before we know it can legally and financially be done. But I am absolutely willing to do the work to find out.

This shouldn’t be Republican or Democrat. It should be about finding a better solution for Bay County.
