There is something special happening in Bayonne, and an entire city is starting to feel it.
The Bayonne Bees are the New Jersey Little League State Champions, but their summer is not finished. These young ballplayers have taken their gloves, bats and dreams to Bristol, Connecticut, where they are competing in the Metro Region Tournament for an opportunity generations of children have imagined: playing in the Little League World Series in Williamsport.
Bayonne opened regional play with an impressive 8-2 victory over Connecticut champion Darien. They looked confident and completely comfortable under the bright lights. No fear. No shrinking from the moment. Just a group of kids playing together and believing in each other.
Today at 1 p.m., it becomes New Jersey versus New York.
Bayonne faces Port Washington, the New York State Champion, with the winner advancing directly to Friday nightโs Metro Region Championship Game. Win today and the Bees will be one victory away from Williamsport.
These boys have already given Bayonne a summer to remember. Families have traveled with them. Neighbors are following every inning. People who may not have watched a Little League game in years are checking scores and learning the names of the children carrying their city across their chests.
So letโs say every one of those names.

Those coaches, parents and families deserve their recognition too. Youth baseball does not reach this level without early practices, long rides, fundraising, washed uniforms, tired arms, patient instruction and adults giving these children the room to grow together.
This is bigger than baseball now.
It is about hometown pride. It is about young boys learning what can happen when talent, discipline and teamwork come together. It is about representing Bayonne, Hudson County and the entire State of New Jersey on a national stage.
Years from now, these boys will remember the bus rides, hotel rooms, practices, nervous parents and teammates sitting beside them in the dugout. They will remember the summer when the whole city started believing with them.
The Boys of Summer are on a magical ride.
Today, New Jersey meets New York in Connecticut. Williamsport is getting closer, and the Bayonne ๐ are still flying.
