Beaufort County—and counties across the country—are seeing an increase in real estate fraud attempts, so homeowners should be aware.

Fraudsters may pose as property owners and attempt to sell properties they don’t actually own. Fake IDs, fraudulent wire transfers, and forged documents are becoming increasingly common.

Vacant homes, second homes, and rental properties can be especially vulnerable.

One simple step you can take is to claim your property through the Beaufort County Register of Deeds for an added layer of protection and notification.
