🔥 Maintenance Monday: Fire Prevention Starts at Home! 🔥

A few simple habits can make a big difference when it comes to fire safety. Whether you live in an apartment, duplex, or single-family rental, taking a few extra precautions can help protect your home, your family, and your neighbors.

🧯 Avoid overloaded outlets. Plugging too many devices into one outlet or power strip can create a fire hazard.

🍳 Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Unattended cooking is one of the most common causes of residential fires. Keep towels, paper products, and other flammable items away from the stove.

🔥 Use space heaters carefully. Keep them at least 3 feet away from furniture, curtains, bedding, and anything else that can catch fire. Always turn them off before leaving the room or going to sleep.

🕯️ Be cautious with candles and open flames. Flameless candles are a safer alternative, especially in homes with children or pets.

🚪 Keep exits clear. Make sure doors, hallways, and other escape routes are not blocked so you can get out quickly in an emergency.

🔋 Test your smoke detectors regularly. Press the test button each month and report any smoke detector that is not working properly right away.

💡 Fire prevention does not have to be complicated. A few minutes spent checking your home today can help prevent a much bigger problem later.

A dripping faucet or running toilet may seem like something that can wait. But water has a way of reaching places you can’t easily see. By the time a stain appears on a ceiling or the floor feels soft, a simple repair may have turned into damage to cabinets, flooring, or drywall.

For rental property owners, one of the best ways to protect your investment is to make it easy for residents to report concerns and follow up when they do. A work order gives you a record of what was reported, when it was reported, and how it was resolved. It also helps you spot repeat issues that may need a closer look.

Here are a few things worth paying attention to:

💧 Faucets that drip or toilets that continue running
💧 Water stains around ceilings, windows, or plumbing fixtures
💧 Damp cabinets, soft flooring, or musty smells
💧 A sudden change in the water bill
