🍁Having grown up in Harford County, MD, I can safely say I have been to damn near every nature park that exists (including a few in Baltimore and Cecil counties). I’m sharing my love of nature with some of ya’ll that may want to get out there this fall. Here is a list of a few of the more popular places to hike, bike, ride horse or whatever floats your boat. There are sooo many but here’s a few. In Harford we have: Rocks State Park, Susquehanna State Park and Falling Branch (as is locals call it). In Baltimore County: Gunpowder State Park, Oregon Ridge, and Patapsco Valley State Park. In Cecil: Fairhill (great for horseback riding), Elk Neck and Bohemia River State Park. Harford County “SOCKtober” Collection Drive in October to Warm Neighbors in Need

Warm socks, mittens, and hats are greatly needed items at homeless shelters, yet they are among the least-often donated. To fill this gap, Harford County government, in partnership with Harford County Public Library and We Cancerve, a foundation that creates giving opportunities for youth to support homeless, sick, and foster children, is sponsoring its annual “SOCKtober” collection drive in October.

Donations of new socks, hats, mittens, and gloves of all sizes will be distributed to local individuals and families experiencing homelessness, or on the brink of homelessness, and to local veteran’s organizations. Collection boxes will be located in county government buildings, including parks and recreation facilities, senior centers, and all public libraries through October 31.

SOCKtober helps raise awareness about homelessness in Harford County and provides items that are in high demand before the winter months. Even regular donors of clothing such as coats and pants will usually wear out their own socks, hats, and gloves before throwing them away. This means that homeless individuals are constantly at risk of serious foot disease and, during winter months, in severe danger from the cold.

"As we approach the colder months of the year, everyday items like warm socks, gloves, and hats can make a significant difference for those in need," said County Executive Bob Cassilly. "I encourage you to consider donating these essential items to help the less fortunate in our community."
