Real Estate is going to be booming.

This is what actually using the power of the mayor's office looks like.

Day one in office, Mamdani signs executive orders creating LIFT — a task force whose entire job is hunting down every scrap of city-owned land sitting idle while New Yorkers get priced out. Seven months later: a public tracker mapping more than 100 city-owned sites across five boroughs slated to deliver over 50,000 new homes, with RFPs going out for five or more new sites every single year going forward.

This isn't a press release promise. It's projects already breaking ground — 229 deeply affordable senior apartments at Sol on Park, 40 affordable homeownership units near Claremont Houses using a community land trust model so speculators can't flip them later. The Aurea turning a former NYPD parking lot into 131 affordable homes. The Orion bringing nearly 1,000 homes to a lot that sat vacant for years.

And the transparency move matters as much as the housing itself: "City-owned land is not sitting idle—it is becoming homes, libraries, and community space," Mamdani said. No more guessing what City Hall is doing with public land. You can watch it happen in real time.

Sites that have "sputtered along for eight years" under previous administrations are finally moving. That's the difference between a mayor who talks about affordability and one who treats public land like the public asset it is.

50,000 homes. Public land. Zero giveaways to developers sitting on vacant lots. This is the housing plan New York actually needed.
