Recently, an article was published with a new update to potential scams. We wanted to give you additional information about protecting yourself from online threats.

1. Ignore online posts/requests about vaccinations. Currently, there are no vaccinations to prevent covid-19.
2. Do your homework when it comes to donations or charitable giving.
3. Beware of a text message scam offering free iPhones due to the coronavirus asking you to click a link.
4. Forbes has reported an uptick in domain names registered under "coronavirus" or "covid". These domain names can be used to infect users with malware.

Keep safe during this time! And remember, self-isolation is best to slow the spread of this virus!

While everyone is taking precautions to prevent the spread of covid-19 or coronavirus, we also need to be diligent about protecting ourselves from an increasing number of online scams related to the virus. Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge has provided the following tips to protect Arkansans from con artists:

1. Get your information from well-known sources, such as those ending in .gov. Additional resources can include the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) or the Arkansas Department of Health
2. Beware of requests that ask for your personal information, credit card information, social security, or banking number
3. Check the URL for the "lock" button before proceeding
4. Look for generic e-mail greetings such as "Dear Sir" or "Madam" and delete any e-mails urging you to act quickly

We hope these tips will help clear up any confusion you might encounter on the internet and also keep you safe from online scammers.
