Please lock your doors and look out for your neighbors.
There have been multiple vehicle thefts in Van Buren Twp, and the Metro-Detroit area recently.
▪️ NEVER leave your keys in your car. The center console is NOT a good place to store them. Avoid keeping valuables in your car at all, including loose change. And never keep a weapon unattended in your vehicle.
▪️ Don’t leave your car running. It can be tempting to leave your car running especially in colder temperatures, but this also makes it pretty easy for a thief to hop in and drive away.
▪️ Lock car doors and leave the windows up. Don’t make it easy for a thief to reach in and sn**ch anything of value.
▪️ Park in well-lit areas. Keep a porch light on, or try to find a spot underneath a streetlight that’s well-lit and well-trafficked. Thieves may be less likely to rummage through a car with a spotlight on them and a potential audience.
▪️ Invest in an anti-theft system. Whether it’s a steering wheel lock, camera, an alarm, or an ignition cut-off system, anything that makes a thief work harder could also make your car safer.
As always, report any suspicious activity to the Van Buren Police Department at: (734) 699-8930
