Van Buren Township has declared a Snow Emergency. Please remove parked vehicles from roadways for snow removal and access for emergency vehicles. Public Safety officials or a HOA authority may issue a courtesy warning to remove your vehicle from the road. Failing to comply, may result in your vehicle being towed. The snow emergency will remain in effect for 48 hours.

Please lock your doors and look out for your neighbors.

Please lock your doors and look out for your neighbors.

There have been multiple vehicle thefts in Van Buren Twp, and the Metro-Detroit area recently.

▪️ NEVER leave your keys in your car. The center console is NOT a good place to store them. Avoid keeping valuables in your car at all, including loose change. And never keep a weapon unattended in your vehicle.

▪️ Don’t leave your car running. It can be tempting to leave your car running especially in colder temperatures, but this also makes it pretty easy for a thief to hop in and drive away.

▪️ Lock car doors and leave the windows up. Don’t make it easy for a thief to reach in and sn**ch anything of value.

▪️ Park in well-lit areas. Keep a porch light on, or try to find a spot underneath a streetlight that’s well-lit and well-trafficked. Thieves may be less likely to rummage through a car with a spotlight on them and a potential audience.

▪️ Invest in an anti-theft system. Whether it’s a steering wheel lock, camera, an alarm, or an ignition cut-off system, anything that makes a thief work harder could also make your car safer.

As always, report any suspicious activity to the Van Buren Police Department at: (734) 699-8930
