Today is the company‘s community service day. I arrived at the work site at 8:30 a.m. - Jubilee reach, which used to be a church, is now the location of the non-profit organization Jubilee Reach. It was established in 2006. It mainly serves the elderly and young kid living in poverty in the community. More than 30 of us are divided to mowing, weeding, painting, window cleaning and repairing. We are not just volunteers but we like to show that we have heart to love people. I learned how to clean windows with tools today and will practice at home tomorrow.

Flying to Los Angeles, 3.5 hours delayed in Detroit, bored, I walked in the corridor of the empty waiting hall, straightening my chest, tightening my waist, hanging my shoulders, lifting my crotch, and my whole body was both nervous and relaxed. I walked back and forth until my whole body become warm. Looking at the back of my walking, I walked just in ordinary steps but it doesn‘t look like an old woman’s walk. It is good!

Looking at Washington DC from a distance, compared with other bustling cities, it is flat, and the tallest buildings are the Washington Monument and Capitol Hill. The city was specially designed and built as the capital of the United States in 1791, and was officially declared the capital of the United States in 1800. Before that, every state scrambled for the position as the capital of the United States. Entering the city, the houses in the city are square, with an average height of 10-15 floors. Walking along the central axis of the Washington Monument and Capitol Hill to the Lincoln Memorial, it reminds me of Tiananmen Square, the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall and Beijing City. They have a lot in common. There are more than a dozen museums along both sides of the central axis. I visited one. I like it very much, and the rest will come back next time.

I decided to go to the dentist‘s office to clean my teeth. The last time was 5-6 years ago. In Shanghai, after cleaning my teeth, the lower left tooth had a toothache for half a year, and it didn’t hurt until the new tartar was generated (I guess so). My husband and daughter urged me many times to clean my teeth on routine basis, but I didn‘t go. First, my teeth were naturally strong and I used dental floss for a long time. The tartar growth was very slow and didn’t look obvious. I didn‘t think it was necessary. Second, I was reluctant to spend money. The last dental cleaning cost was $500. This time, in the United States, there is no less than $1,000? But I’m going to attend my daughter‘s graduation ceremony, at least I should be clean and tidy, right? So I decided to clean my teeth. The doctor said that I haven’t washed it for a long time, and I need to do a deep cleaning this time. Check out is $1500. She suggested that I go to the clinic every three months, NoNoNo, how can I stand it? I said I shall come back when I need it. However, I‘m still very happy to spend some money for my daughter.

Today is May 5th, Mexico’s Independence Day. In Spanish, Cinco De Mayo. Many places in the United States celebrate this festival. At the party in our office this afternoon, I dressed up as a Mexican and went to join in the fun with the Mexican musical instrument MaRaCas, which was very popular. This instrument is one of my vintage collection

Mexico gained independence in September 1821, but the symbol of true independence was its victory in the battle against the French army in Puebla on May 5, 1862. However, the French authorities did not officially recognize Mexico‘s independence until April 10, 1864. It is said that there is no such festival in Mexico, which is specially established by the Latino group in the United States to respect the history and culture of the Latino people in the United States.
