While the average U.S. household pays $3,119 per year in property taxes, in the highest-ranked state, New Jersey, the average homeowner shells out a whopping $9,590.

Property taxes have become so unpopular that many states are pushing to lower them or even abolish them completely. States such as Ohio, South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Pennsylvania, and Florida are at the forefront of the revolt against property taxes.

We keep losing people, opportunities, and revenue to other states. People are leaving. We are not growing, and we have a tax problem.

How many of our state senators pledged to lower property taxes and said they would cut all taxes? I’d bet nearly all of them did.

Look at how they’ve voted in recent years. Do their votes match their campaign promises?

I don’t care what party you belong to - if you voted for tax increases (fees are a form of taxation) to cover years of out-of-control spending, you need to be held accountable.

Omaha residents, are you aware that $27M of your tax dollars were spent to build a brand new juvenile detention center that may never be used for its intended purpose? Utilities and maintenance on this empty building have cost tax payers an additional $177k since July 2024, and tax payers will also be footing the bill for future upkeep, which has been estimated at a minimum of $20k per month moving forward. Incidentally, Nebraska recently was ranked 4th in the nation for highest property taxes.
